"...the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 'Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, cross over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.'" (Joshua 1:1-3)

Moses' life was divided into three seasons of forty years each; forty in Egypt, forty in the backside of the desert, and forty in the wilderness. However, the last phase of wandering never needed to happen. The Hebrews could have made it out of Egypt to the Promised Land, under Moses' leadership, in four days and four nights, but disobedience put them in a circle of judgment where they wandered for forty years until that generation died off. Only a few 'generals' like Caleb and Joshua were counted worthy to cross over to the Promised Land.

In many modern Christian movements, every twenty years or so, there is a time of transition where leadership changes hands. The 'new guard' brings a challenge to the 'old guard'. Some relevant veterans of the 'old guard' survive this time frame and go on to the next passing of the baton some twenty years later. These are the 'generals' whose credibility derives from their longevity, which is a direct result of their stickability and integrity. In the last few months, several of these 'generals' have graduated one step further into eternity. Among them were Bill Bright, Kenneth Hagin and Derek Prince (see below). These 'passings' are signs of the end of one era and the beginning of a new one. This is not just restricted to spiritual leaders, but includes influential people in other realms. Johnny Cash and Australia's equivalent, Slim Dusty, both cultural icons in their respective nations, crossed over in the last few weeks.

The last forty years has proven to be a moral and spiritual wilderness for America, and due to the enormous influence of its popular culture, for much of the western world also. Culturally, its almost becoming a foreign land for Christians. Our world view is increasingly being relegated to the ideological backwaters by a small but powerful group whose vision is an America without God. However, the passing of these 'generals' mentioned above should be a sign to us that we are on the verge of a new era. The wilderness time is coming to an end and we must be ready to cross over the Jordon into what has been promised!

Many, including myself, firmly believe that the only thing that can bring America out of the wilderness and back from the brink of decline is a sweeping reformation of righteousness. It is for this reason that I came here from Australia, to see and be a part of what is expected in my days (see http://www.firepowerint.com/prophecies.htm). There's a 'Promised Land' waiting for America. We can choose to cross over and enter it, or like some of the Hebrew tribes, stay on the safe side of the Jordon. But if we are to enter, it will not be a picnic. The land has to be possessed. Crossing over is not the destination but the beginning of a new level of challenge. Some with the same heart as Caleb or Joshua may lead us over the 'Jordan' but it will be a new generation that will do the possessing with them. God is raising up a generation who are beginning to understand that unless you have a cause worth dying for, you don't have a life worth living for! Their cause is to see Christ glorified in America again.

America is not currently the Promised Land, but if we cross over the Jordan, conquer our own fears, move in and re-possess the culture, it will become the land of promise.

DEREK PRINCE, 1915-2003 - Dr. Derek Prince, a distinguished Bible teacher, author and long-time Jerusalem resident, died Wednesday, September 24 following a series of chronic illnesses. He was 88. Derek Prince birthed a teaching and healing ministry that would touch six continents over seven decades. He is survived by 11 children and an extended family of over 150 relatives.

KENNETH HAGIN, 1917-2003 - Kenneth Hagin, founder of Kenneth Hagin Ministries, went home to be with the Lord on September 19. Known as the "father of the modern faith movement," Hagin was a dynamic preacher, teacher and prophet known for ministering healing and the message of faith. His teachings and books are filled with vivid stories that show God's power and truth working in his life and the lives of others.

Too often we satisfy our souls by singing a few songs – but where are our hearts? Where is the worship in spirit and in truth? The Holy Spirit, through Brother Jeff’s message, led us through and exposed those things we allow to get in the way of true worship that have become our focus of worship apart from God – idols that we have raised above the living God. He then led us to a place of repentance and released the healing forgiveness that can now establish a heart attitude of worship. Heal the Land Prayer Breakfast - "To My Friends and Partners in the Kingdom. Last Wednesday (Sept 10) we had our first annual 'Heal the Land Prayer Breakfast' in commemoration of the Second Anniversary of 9/11. Present were about 90-100 pastors and leaders from the New York and New Jersey region. The theme was 2 Chronicles 7:14 and the service included a time of casting vision for reaching our nation and city, prayers of repentance, and prayers for our elected and appointed officials. Our special guest was Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión, who shared briefly before some of the pastors present laid hands on him and other civic leaders and prayed a blessing on them. Perhaps, most importantly, this event reflected the incredible unity that is emerging in the New York region body of Christ.

The service not only featured public prayers by some of the leading pastors of our city, but it also was a model for great teamwork as myself, Pastor Marcus Rivera (the host pastor of Primitive Christian Church) and Pastor Mac Pier (Director of Concerts of Prayer Greater New York) worked together to facilitate what transpired as the Lord led us. Afterwards, about 20 pastors met with a representative of Billy Graham, who is investigating whether or not to come to New York some time in 2004 to conduct his last crusade. I want to personally thank Pastor Marcus Rivera, host pastor and director of the Northeast Clergy Group, and Pastor Mac Pier of COPGNY for partnering together with myself and the leaders of City Covenant Coalition to make this event one that glorified our Lord Jesus Christ! For the Lordship of Christ over all, Pastor Joseph Mattera"

Market SeaChange Conference - God is raising up a new kind of minister. These understand that their calling is to be His agents in the business world. Marketplace ministry pioneer, Rich Marshall (author of 'God@Work' - see below), and Julian Watts of Markets Unlocked, were the special guest speakers along with Chris Healy, (Market SeaChange director), Jeff Beacham and Walt Healy, senior pastor of The Church of Grace and Peace, conference hosts. This is the first of an anticipated annual conference especially aimed at equipping ministries in the marketplace.

Hurricane Isabel - In August, we had the Big Blackout in the Northeast and last month we had the Big Blowout. Hurricane Isabel was headed straight for Washington, DC. Despite the media hype sparking a rush on supermarkets and leaving streets like ghost towns, by the time Isabel got to New Jersey/ New York, it was downgraded to a tropical storm. Bill Koenig of Koenig's International News saw a correlation between the hurricane and efforts by Washington to pressure Israel to give up land, "Many people prayed for God's mercy and He was merciful. However, this costly storm with its intricate tie-in to Israel is another warning judgment to those involved in the parceling of God's covenant land."

GAP Dedicates New Building Extension - The Church of Grace and Peace (GAP), FMI's New Jersey base, dedicated the latest extension to its existing building on Sunday, September 5. The three levels include a fellowship hall that can seat up to 400 for various functions, additional classrooms for the school, and a new youth hall called 'The UnderGround' (see photo above left).
